Microsoft Reference Setup Troubleshooter

Certain Windows 95/98 files may be missing, or damaged, or the incorrect version.

This behavior can occur if one or more of the following files are missing, damaged, or the incorrect version.

  • Dciman.dll
  • Dciman32.dll
  • Msvfw32.dll

To resolve this issue, replace all three files on the hard disk with the original files from the Windows CD-ROM or disks. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.

  2. In the Named box, type "dciman.dll" (without quotation marks), and then click Find Now.

  3. In the list of found files, right-click the Dciman.dll file, and then click Delete.

  4. Repeat steps 2-3 for the following files:

    • Dciman32.dll
    • Msvfw32.dll

  5. Close the Find: Files Named Msvfw32.dll window.

  6. Extract new copies of the Dciman.dll, Dciman32.dll, and Msvfw32.dll files to the Windows\System folder.
